Exploding Petrol Tanks Cause Spectacular Fire
SYDNEY. June 7. In Sydney’s most spectacular explosion for years, five 500-gallon underground petrol tanks were destroyed at a service station, at Rockdale today. The explosion set off a chain reaction: Several petrol drums nearby exploded. Flaming petrol ran down drainsL Glass in windows of the garage melted. Some nearby gas mains exploded In the heat—one of them half a mile away. Men working in some adjoining underground fcanks scrambled out of them as the bla'atfe shook the area. They were thrown off their feet by the ex-
plosion. Motorists raced to their cars parked at the garage as flaming petrol spurted near.
Garage employees sprayed foam on the flames to prevent them from spreading to petjrol stored nearby. Three fire brigades rushed to the garage and put out the fire.
