RELIGHTING OF JET ENGINE
PILOT DIVES PLANE OVER NEW GUINEA
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) • BRISBANE. June 7.
The pilot of one of four Australian Canberra jets returning from a goodwill visit to the United States dived his aeroplane from 45,000 to 10.000 feet yesterday to relight an engine that “died” over northern New Guinea. Another of the Canberras accompanied the affected jet as a “shepherd” aeroplane. The engine relit. Both of the diving jets landed at Townsville, Queensland, later with their fuel tanks almost dry.
