MUSICAL POST IN BRITAIN
N.Z. SALVATION ARMY OFFICER A Salvation Army officer who has gained a Dominion reputation as a conductor and composer has been notified of his appointment as bandmaster of all Salvation Army musical forces in Britain. He is Captain Dean Coffin. who is at present officer in charge of the Wellington South Corps. Captain Gomn will make his last appearance in Christchurch this weekend. Captain Goffin entered the Salvation Army Training College in m 1951. In 1952. he graduated from the of Otago as a bachelor of music. While at Dunedin he conducted the Dimedin Technical College brass band and the military band attached to the college. During the last five years, be has • heloed to organise several musical festivals, and has been in demand an instructor and lecturer. Among his compositions are “Symphony" of Thanksgiving.'' a festival march. “Crusaders. - and a meditation, “The Tight of the World.*' ■ When living at Thr.aru. Captain Goffin was conductor of the Timaru . Musical Club Orchestra and the . Tunarn Salvation Army Band, and . was -.ice-president of ~ the Umaru " Choral Society and Municipal Band. :■ As bandmaster off the 4th Brigade ■ Band, he spent five years in the Middle East w»th the rank of captain in rhe 2nd N.ZEF. Tomorrow evening Captain Gc?n will preside over a united corns musical festival in Christchurch and he will conduct public meetings at the Salvation Army Citadel on Sunday.
