The Hon. Mrs Tahu Rhodes and Miss Ngaio Marsh were the guests of honour at the monthly luncheon meeting of the Victoria League, held at Elizabeth House yesterday. They were welcomed by the president (Mrs Red- ! mond Neill), and Miss Mary Enright. Miss Marsh gave an informal description of the life of a writer of detective fiction living in Britain. Guide Rangi, of Rotorua, a member of the Rotoriia Business and Professional Women’s Club, arrived in Christchurch yesterday, and will leave for the North Island today. Last week, she visited Invercargill and attended as an observer the ninth biennial conference of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs. Guide Rangi is 'also a serving sister in the Order of St. John, a member of the Women’s Health League, and president of the Rotorua Girl Guides’ Association. Her previous visit to Christchurch was four years ago.

Mrs C. Pluinridge, Dominion president of the Townswomen’s Guild; will leave this week for, Nelson, where she will attend the twenty-first birthday celebrations of the Nelson guild. Next Monday she will leave Nelson for Wellington to attend a meeting of the Rongotai guild and also a meeting of the Dominion executive. The Middle Watch of the Navy League held a reception aboard the Rangitata by permission of the directors of the New Zealand Shipping Company. The guests were ' received by Captain E. H. Hopkins, Mr and Mrs John Deans. Captain G. H. Dennistoun, and Miss Natalie Vale, president of the Middle Watch. The lounge and smokeroom were gaily decorated with shades of gold chrysanthemums. The proceeds from the reception will be given to the Canterbury Sea Cadet fund. Mrs L. Collett, Dominion secretary of the Townswomen’s Guild, will leave for Wellington this week to attend a meeting of the executive of the Dominion federation. Part-sonas. solos, duets, hum orous items, piano accordion solos and a dramatic sketch were enjoyed. Mrs Hilda Reeve led community singing. The accompanist was Rona Burrowes. Starr 3 Plans for delegates to attend the annual Dominion conference of the Women’s Division :£t Federated Farmers in Invercargill next month were made at the monthly meeting of the Canterbury executive yesterday. Reports were given on the division’s housekeeping scheme, “Te Kiteroa” rest home, “Stratheona” training centre, and the National Council of Women. It was announced that special classes for members of the movement and country women would be held at “Te Kiteroa” during the winter.
