WATER TAXI SERVICE AT LYTTELTON

INVERCARGILL MAN’S PROJECT

An Invercargill man, Mr J. H. Stone, proposes to establish, a water taxi service between Lyttelton and Diamond Harbour. The Lyttelton Harbour Beard yesterday agreed to issue a licence when the craft is built and complies with the Marine Department's requirements.

The secretary (Mr A. L. Burk) said the applicant sought permission to operate a speed-boat service. Provided the craft, which was not yet built, passed the Marine Department’s survey, the board must issue a licence. "He has a bigger job to do than he thinks,” said Mr F. E. Sutton, moving that a licence be granted when the boat was built. “Personally. I can’t see him making a fortune.” z A service to Diamond Harbour. Charteris Bay, and other bays might

be a good thing, said Mr F. W. Freeman. Perhaps it was the forerunner of a car ferry service which would shorten the trip to Akaroa, he added jokingly.
