Victory For Mr Stevenson (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) NEW YORK, June 6. Senator Estes Kefauver (Tennessee) conceded early today that he had been defeated by Mr Adlai Stevenson in the California Democratic Presidential primary. z At that stage. Mr Stevenson was leading by a majority of nearly two to one. In a telegram to Mr Stevenson, Senator Kefauver said: “Hearty congratulations on your victory in California. I hope and feel the campaign has strengthened the Democratic Party in the Golden State. My supporters and I will join in doing everything possible for the election of Democratic candidates in the General Election and to bring California back into the Democrat fold in November.’’ The victory gave Mr Stevenson 68 delegation Votes for the Democratic Party Presidential convention. President Eisenhower was unopposed on the Republican ballot in his quest for California’s 70 delegates to the Republican Presidential convention.
The margin of M. Stevenson’s victory over .Senator Kefauver in Florida’s primary was set at 13,736 votes yesterday.
