SOUTH CHINA SEA ISLANDS

(Rec. 11 p.m.) TAIPEH. June Chinese Nationalist naval patrol ships have arrived at the Spratley Islands in the South China Sea to warn any foreigners on the coral reefs to leave by peaceful means, an authoritative source said today. The Nationalist Navy contingent comprised two small warships and a group of naval personnel, some of whom served on these islands before 1950.

Both Communist and Nationalist China claim sovereignty over the islands.

This archipelago of uninhabited coral reefs came into the news last month when a party of Filipino explorers ‘‘discovered” some islands in the Spratley group between IndoChina and the Philippines.
