GOLDEN WEDDING

MR AND MRS BENNETT CARTER

Mr and Mrs Bennett Carter, of 61 Canterbury street. Lyttelton, will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary today with an informal gathering of friends at their home. Mr and Mrs Carter were married at St. Andrew’s Church, Darfield, on June 6, 1906, and have lived all their married life at their present home in Lyttelton.

Mr Carter came to New Zealand' almost 80 years ago with his mother and family in the sailing ship Rangitikei. The master was Captain C. Anderson, who later became his stepfather. The family came from Penzance, Cornwall, and settled in Lyttelton. Mrs Carter was born in Yorkshire, and lived at Darfield until her marriage. Her parents were the late Mr and Mrs J. Gibbs, of Darfield. Mr and Mrs Carter have two children, six grandchildren, arid two greatgrandchildren.
