POWER STORAGE RISES
BIG IMPROVEMENT IN TWO MONTHS Two months ago, fcower storage in the South Island stood at only about 7,000,000 units. Yesterday morning, it was 79,710,000% units, an increase of 700.000 units for the preceding 24 hours. No rain was reported from any part of the storage areas yesterday morning or Monday, morning, and the only rain reported during the week-end was at lyaipori where there was 0.57 in in the 24 hours up to 9 a.m. on Saturday and 0.38 in in the daily period to 9 a.m. on Sunday. Yesterday morning, a frost of 6.5 degrees was reported . from Lake Tekapo. ‘ Weather over the storage areas was reported to be calm and overcast or calm and clear.
Consumption in the Municipal Electricity Department’s district was 7 per cent, above the old allocation last week. On Monday, usage in the district was well below the newincreased allocation but an officer of the department said this result was of no real significance as the day was a holiday and consumption was less ‘than■ on any week-day last week. Relief at Rang!ora
Further relief to consumers was agreed to at a meeting of the electrical emergency committee of the Rangiora BoroughqCouncil yesterday. It was decided that the cut from 6.45 p.m. to 7.15 p.m. from Monday to Thursday be eliminated, also the cut from 6.30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. The Sunday cut from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. has been reduced by one hour, to 3 p.m. An extension was also decided on for water heating.
