HOLIDAY ROAD TRAFFIC
NO FATAL ACCIDENTS REPORTED
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. June 4.
When final national reports were collated at 7 p.m. today, no fatal accident had occurred on the roads to mar the Queen’s Birthday week-end. Durine the same week-end last year six were killed and 160 injured. During the last three years 22 have been killed in Queen’s Birthday week-end accidents. Several accidents in which persons were injured were reported this year, but the roads were freer of wreckage than for many years. “A very pleasant picture.” a Transport Department spokesman said.
Only part of the credit was accepted by the department on behalf of all who had been working to reduce accidents on New Zealand roads. Driving showed some improvement, but the weather caused holiday traffic to be lighter than expected.
