Moscow Metropolitan In New York

(Rec. 11 p.m.) NEW YORK, June 8. Metropolitan Nikolai of Moscow told an American audience of Russian Orthodox believers today that the “Holy Faith of the Russian Orthodox Church shall aways be preserved” in Russia. He delivered a brief sermon at the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Nicholas, in New York. i . Metropolitan Nikolai is the highest ranking Soviet clergyman ever to hold services at this cathedral wnicn adheres to that faction of the Russian Orthodox Church in the United States which recognises the authority of Alexei, Patriarch of Moscow and, All Russia. , The Metropolitan is m New York as the head of a delegation of Soviet religious leaders invited by the National Council of Churches of Christ, an association of 30 major American religious groups. The Soviet prelate is the secondranking leader of the Soviet Russian Orthodox Church, subordinate only to the Patriarch. The Christian faith, he said, was a priceless spiritual heritage which had been handed down from father to son for nearly 1000 years in Russia.
