Canberra Damaged At Honolulu
(Rec. 8 p.m.) HONOLULU, Juhe 3. A Royal Australian Air Force Canberra jet bomber was damaged during a take-off today, but the pilot and the navigator were not injured. The plane’s right engine failed and Pilot Officer W. Rayner decided to put the plane down quickly rather than risk crashing into the water or the town. The navigator was Pilot Officer J. A. Johnston.
The aircraft, with its landing gear up, skidded several hundred fset along the runway, damaging the right wing tank and some of the fuselage. The plane, one of five which visited Honolulu, was delayed in departure yesterday by maintenance trouble when the other four aircraft left.
