LORD CARNEGIE TO MARRY
LONDON. June 1. Lord Carnegie, whose name has been romantically linked in the past with Princess Margaret. received the Queen’s consent today to marry Miss Caroline Cicely Dewar, the 22-year-old daughter of the Scotch whisky magnate. Lord Forteviot. Royal permission was necessaryunder the Royal Marriages Act of 1772. for the former Guardsman is a second cousin of the Queen and eighteenth in line of succession to the British Throne. Lord Carnegie, aged 26. is heir to the Dukedom of Fife. He has been the Princess’s escort at many social functions. His father, the Earl of Southesk. once issued a vigorous denial that his son was to become engaged to Princess Margaret. Lord Carnegie went to the same school as the Duke of Edinburgh— Gordonstoun—and is the laird of 20,000 acres in Scotland. His home is at Kinnaird Castle. Brechin.
