SOUTH ISLAND TOURNEY

N. FOIL CHAMPIONS BEATEN “The Special Service INVERCARGILL, June 3. A major upset was caused in the South Island fencing tournament when the New Zealand mer’s foil champion. P. Christchurch was represented by two clues at the tournament, the United fencing Club and the Christchurch Swords Club. They did not perform particularly well. United won two matches, against the Swords Club and against Invercargill. The Swords Club was beaten in every match. Another upset was caused when the Zealand women’s foil champion, Mrs E- Mitchell, of Dunedin, was beaten by O. Jekyll, of the Christchurch United An Empire Games representative, Mrs Jekyll was runner-up to Mrs Mitat the national championships last Twenty fencers took part in the tournament, the first of its kind to be held p the South Island.
