N.Z. PLAYERS’ PRODUCTION

“ SALAD DAYS ” TO BE PRESENTED When the New Zealand players present “Salad Days” in Christchurch early in July, three Christchurch players will be in the cast. One of them, Valda Kincaid, well known in amateur operatics in both Christchurch and Dunedin, is a newcomer to the players. Michael Cotterrill has a major role and also plays a prominent part in "The Queen and the Rebels.” the outstanding contemporary drama by the Italian playwright, Ugo Betti, which will be staged in all the jnain centres during the company’s fourteenth tour, which begins at Hamilton on May 24. The third Christchurch representative is Paddy Frost. "Salad Days” was written by the young English composer, Julian Slade, and Dorothy Reynolds for the Bristol Old Vic Company and was such a success that it was transferred to London’s West End. where it reached its seven-hundredth performance in April. Delightfully whimsical and, at times, slightly crazy, it is a show that cannot be classified as either musical or revue, but is something of both. Star of “The Queen and the Rebels” is Edith Campion. Ugo Betti, the author of this play, died in 1953. A judge by profession, he wrote 21 plays, many short stories and essays and a great deal of poetry.
