OFFICIAL FORECASTS “The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON. May 7. The weather forecast, issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 27 hours after the time of issue. Is:— Situation:— A complex low-pressure system covers the eastern Tasman Sea and central and northern New Zealand, and a ridge of high pressure extends on to southern New Zealand from an anti-cyclone south-east of Otago. Forecast:— Westland.—Light winds; some rain during the morning, but weather mainly fair: moderate temperatures. Outlook: fair. Buller, Nelson, Marlborough, and Canterbury.—Moderate to fresh east to north-east winds; periods of rain much of the day, weather clearing in the evening; moderate temperatures. Outlook: fair in Canterbury, still some riin elsewhere. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The day in Christchurch vesterdav was overcast, with very light showers. ‘There was a light south-west wind, and the maximum temperature was 54.8 degrees. At midnight the sky was overcast and there was a seven-knot wind from the south-west. The temperature was 49.2 degrees. The barometer, at 30.05 in (1017.5 millibars), was rising slowly.
