International Race In Belgium JOHN SURTEES WINS 500 C.C. EVENT (N.Z Press Association-Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) BRUSSELS, May 6. A British racing motor-cyclist, Fergus Anderson, was fatally injured in a crash at an international meeting in Floreffe, near Namur, today. His machine went into a skid on a bend during the 500 c.c. event. He was taken tO' hospital in Namur, where he died. Anderson, who was 47, was world champion in the 350 c.c. class in 1953. The winner of the event was John Surtees (Britain), riding an Italian M.V. The 250 c.c. event was won by H. Baltisberger (Germany) on an N.S.U., at an average speed of 88 miles per hour. Harry Hinton, of Australia, finished second. Baltisberger and Hinton both broke the lap record with an average speed of 88.6 miles per hour for a lap. German riders. all on B.M.W. machines—W. Schneider. H. Fath, and O. Schmidt—filled the first three places respectively in the 500 c.c. side-car event. Bill Lomas (Britain), on a Guzzi, won the 350 c.c. race.
