WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT

PARTS FOR MOTOR CYCLE , ARRIVE Two special large bore carburettors for the 1000 c.c. Vincent motor-cycle which will be used in the BurnsWright record attempt in Utah later this year have been received by Mr R. Burns. The carburettors, which were made in England, have been adapted fur a special fuel, nitro-metharie. Word has also been received by Mr Burns that tests of special moles on the 12 inch sidecar tyres which will be used in the record attempt have proved very satisfactory. The tyres have been designed to withstand speeds of more than 200 miles an hour. The fund for the attempt now stood at more than £5OO, said the chairman of the appeal committee (Mr G. W. Oliver) yesterday. A beach meeting would be held by the Invercargill motor clubs on May 26, at which further funds would be raised, said Mr Oliver.

MOTORCYCLE SCRAMBLE £145 RAISED FOR FUND A sum of £145 17s 3d was raised at a motor-cycle scramble held at Clarkeville to raise funds for the Burns-Wright record attempt in Utah. The event was held under ideal conditions on a rough course of about three-quarters of a mile, including sand traps, rocky hollows, and muddy dips. More than 500 persons watched the eveqt.
