INCREASED SALARIES
Sir, —As I listen to the wonderful news for 125.000 people of increased salaries up to £4lO a year, I wonder when Mr Holland intends to honour his election promise of 12s 6d a week extra to those who worked for five years or more after their pension became due. Mr Holland explained after he came into power that he had no money to keep this promise, conveniently overlooking the fact that, as I worked for seven-years over the pension age I had saved the country thousands of pounds, as well as paying tax on all my earnings. The Government therefore sufficient to pay me 12s 6d a week for many years. Where did it find the money for the thousands increase in Parliamentary salaries? It calmly says that I am allowed to earn this 12s 6d. Does Mr Holland expect a man over 80 still to look for work.— Yours, etc., ONCE A NATIONAL SUPPORTER. May 4, 1956.
