DOGS KILL 200 SHEEP

WHAKATANE FARMS RAIDED THREE MARAUDERS SHOT (New Zealand Press Association) WHAKATANE, March 16. A pack of dogs has been playing havoc with sheep on farms in a block of more than 2000 acres near Whakatane. About 200 sheep and lambs have been killed. Farmers have kept watch at night, and have mustered their sheep off the high country into paddocks close to their houses. But even then the dogs have attacked. So far, three dogs have been shot, but others are still in the area. The land is situated between the Whakatane river and the Whakatane West road, a few miles south of the town. The dogs are said to shelter during the day in a patch of native bush in the middle of the area.

The farms are hilly, and the back sections are covered with scrub. Farmers say it is the worst case of sheep worrying in the district for many years.
