Borovansky Ballet To Disband

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) SYDNEY. March 16. The Borovansky Ballet Company, the second largest of its kind in the world, is being forced to disband. The ballet's director. Mr Edward Borovansky. said last night that the company would disband on August 2 after completing its five-month Melbourne season. He said the ballet had now exhausted its territory, and there were no theatres left in Australia or New Zealand big enough to take the large audiences necssary to make ballet pay. Many dancers and artists, he gaid, were going overseas for experience, and time had to be allowed to find new dancers and train them. This meant the company would be out of work for a long period, which would cost £50.000 a year. Mr Borovansky claimed the Australian Government should subsidise the ballet for this amount, which wag considerably less than was given to the Sadler's Wells Ballet Company and other English companies.
