AUSTRALIAN TEAM BEGINS TOUR

(Rec. 10 p.m.) MELBOURNE. Mar. 16. The Australian cricket team for England assembled in Melbourne today and left by air for Tasmania, where the first matches of the tour will be played. The team will play matches ‘ against Tasmania at Launceston tomorrow and at Hobart on March 22. Both are three-dav matches.
From Tasmania, the team will fly to Perth for a match against Western Australia at Easter, before leaving on the Himalaya for England. The captain, lan ohnson, said that he was very confident Australia would bring back the Ashes. "Our batting is the strongest since 1948. and our bowling has not let Australia lown since the war,” he said.
ELLESMERE JUNIOR TEAM
The Ellesmere junior team to plav North Canterbury’ at Rangiora on March 21 and 22 will be: P. Lewis (captain). M. Chamberlain. P. Chamberlain. B. Free (Lecston), M. Wallis, Neil Wallis (wicket-keeper. Lincoln), J. Feast (Weedons), J. Sheat (Dunsandel). M. Everest ( Springston >. E. Clark (Southbridge). D Lili firwell). B Mercer, twelfth man f Leeston».
Players are asked to assemble at Rangiora at 9.30 a.m. —Advt.
