CANBERRA CHAIR FOR NEW ZEALANDER
APPOINTMENT OF MR L. C. WEBB (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) CANBERRA, March 13. Professor L. C. Webb has been appointed to the chair of political science in the research school of social sciences of the Australian National University. Professor Webb took an M.A. degree at Canterbury University College with first-clas honours in history and spent two years in post-graduate work at Caius College, Cambridge. He represented the “Southland Times” in the Parliamentary Press Gallery and was a leader writer on the staff of “The Press,’’ Christchurch. He married Carolyn West-Watson, a daughter of Archbishop West-Watson, in 1932. For 10 years he was a lecturer in political science at Canterbury College. During the war. Professor Webb was staff officer in charge of current affairs in the New Zealand Army education service. In 1945 he was appointed director of economic stabilisation, and in 1948 director of. marketing. Professor Webb has been reader in political science at the National University, Canberra, since' 1951.
