STOREMEN’S AWARD
COURT GRANTS INCREASES IN WAGES An increase of 5s in the minimum weekly wage for adult storemen and packers in all parts of New Zealand except Westland is included in a new award approved by the Arbitration Court. For workers under 21 the wage increases will range from 2s to 4s 6d a week. Under a new clause, an extra 2£d an hour will be paid to workers operating power-driven lifts. Workers handling carbon black, except in drums, will receive an extra 4| an hour. Casual workers, that is those employed for less than a week, will be paid at the minimum rate of 4s 9Jd an hour. All the wage increases are subject to ithe Arbitration Court’s 13 per cent, general wage 1 increase. The new award, which was made retrospective to February 13, will continue in force till March 9, 1957.
