“TWELFTH NIGHT”
N.Z. PLAYERS’ NEW PRODUCTION Produced with an appeal to modern tastes without offending traditionalists, Shakespeare’s comedy, ‘‘Twelfth Night,” will be presented by the New Zealand Players at the Theatre Royal on Wednesday for a season of five nights. It will be produced by Mr Richard Campion. Rosalind Atkinson, of the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre, Stratford-on-
Avon, will play the role of Maria. Sir Toby will be played by the brilliant character actor, Redmond Phillips, of Sir Barrie Jackson’s Birmingham Repertory Company. Edith Campion will be Viola, and Eleanor Elliot has been chosen for the role of Olivia. John Hunter, who will be remembered for his outstanding performance as Puck in ‘‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” will play Feste. For this part he has had to learn to play the lute, and Bryon O’Leary, another member of the cast, will play a recorder. No “canned” music will be heard in “Twelfth Night”: all will be played on stage. Brian Bell has arranged traditional themes to fit the three songs which John Hunter will sing, as well as arranging the background music. He will also play the part of Antonia.
