WAGE RISES FOR ELECTRICIANS
CHANGES MADE IN AWARD Changes in the Marlborough, Nelson, Westland, and Canterbury Electric Power Boards and Supply Authorities Employees’ Award provide for small increases in the wage rates for workers of the New Zealand Engineering, Coachbuilding, Aircraft, and Related Trades Union in an award announced by the Court of Arbitration. Increases are retrospective to March 1, 1956, for wages, and to March 8 for other parts of the award. Increases of 6s 8d a week have been made for inspectors, electricians, diesel plant operators, servicemen who are registered with “A” and “B” certificates and other servicemen. New provisions are made for other registered servicemen who are to be paid £lO 10s lOd a week, and certificated linesmen, who are to be paid £lO 10s a week. Another new clause provides foi electricians with advanced trade certificates to be paid 3d an hour extra. Other increases include the following: 6s 8d a week for linesmen; 6s 5d for labourers: 3s 4d for linesmen’s assistants, storemen, meter testers, permanent labourers at hydro stations, and racemen; and Is 5d for workshop assistants. wages of operators have been increased by 5s Id a week and by 3s 4d a week in the Westland Industrial District. Rates of remuneration are increased by 13 per cent, under the Arbitration Court’s general wage order. The award will remain in force until February 28, 1958.
