FOURS CONTEST HELD “TOO LONG’’ COMMENT AT CENTRE MEETING Commenting on a suggestion that the number of bowls used in champion of champion pairs tournaments be three instead of four, Mr J. R. Sm ; th, at last evening’s meeting of the Christchurch Bowling Centre, gave details of the hours played at the recent tournament. Play had been from 9 a.m. to 7.10 p.m. on the first day. and from 8.30 a.m. to 7.25 p.m. on the second day. he said. The tournament was one for the survival of the fittest and was too long. Mr Smith said he hoped that his remarks would be noted by delegates and that clubs would discuss the suggestion before it was considered at the annual meeting of the centre. The chairman of the match committee reported that 38 entries had been received for the champion of champion singles tournament, which would be played on the Shirley green and 40 entries for the champion of champion colts' tournament, which would be played on the St. Albans and Fendalton greens. The Easter tournament had drawn 112 entries and play would be on nine greens, with headquarters at the Shirley green. It was decided to forward the nomination of Mr W. J. L’aort (Auckland) for president of the council of the New Zealand Bowling Association. Mr S. Hall (Christchurch) will be nominated for senior vice-president. Mr Hall would then be president th next year, when the New Zealand tournament would be held in Christchurch. A letter was received from the New Zealand Bowling Association saying that an approach had been made to the Women’s Bowling Association to ensure that its tournament would not be held in the same town as the men's tournament in future seasons.
