INTER-SCHOOL MATCH

CHRIST’S COLLEGE IN GOOD POSITION

In the .first cricket match between the two colleges, Christ’s College is in a commanding position against Nelson College and has a good chance of gaining an outright win in the match which began at the Christ’s College ground. South Hagley Park, yesterday. In reply to Nelson College’s first innings score of 119 runs, Christ’s College has made 219 for the loss of eight wickets. R. Hunter and W. Martyn were the best of the Nelson College batsmen. Hunter played aggressively on a lively pitch and made a forceful 36. With D. Flux they were the only Nelson College batsmen who showed any likelihood of mastering the Christ's College bowling. Bowling a good length from the northern end. B. Farrant tied the batsmen down. He took four wickets for 18 runs. R. Kelleher and R. Reekie also bowled well. Martyn was out to a good inswinger from Reekie. Christ’s College fielded smartly and only two hard chances were missed. J. England and T. Bishop opened against a pace attack by Martyn and P. Park, who bowled almost throughout the afternoon. T. Bishop, P. Andrews, and T. Maling all played confidently. J. Dalmer played an aggressive and entertaining, though not alwa.vs a correct, innings for the top score of 73. The Nelson College bowlers had to work hard off a pitch that had lost its life. Nelson College may have had more success if it had made more use of slow bowlers in its atttack. The game will be continued today. Scores:— ' NELSON COLLEGE First Innings
