Jordan Cabinet Meets

(Rec. 10 p.m.) AMMAN. March 5. The Jordan Cabinet held a two-hour emergency session tonight to review the statement made by the British Prime Minister. Sir Anthony Eden, in the House of Commons yesterday on the status of British officers in Jordan and the dismissal of General John Glubb from the Arab Legion. The Jordan Government abstained from commenting on the statement until it had studied an official text, which had been requested from the Jordan Embassy in London. The Jordan public welcomed Sir Anthony Eden’s statement on the withdrawal of British officers from the Arab Legion as the first step towards making the Jordan forces completely Arab.

Political observers in Amman say new Arab developments will follow King Hussein’s new step to make an Arab army and to terminate the services of foreign members. They also believe that the Jordan Government will still keep its obligations to, and friendly relations with Britain, under the British and Jordan Treaty of 1948.
