RIPA ISLAND JETTY
A personal approach to the Minister of Marine (Mr J. K. McAlpine) will be made by the Lyttelton Harbour Board to have work on the Ripa Island jetty declared a Government undertaking. Members of the board yesterday refused to accept an offer by the Minister for a £2 for £1 subsidy for the cost of repairs to the jetty. They said that it was the Government which wanted the work done and the Government which would receive the benefit, and therefore they were not keen to accept responsibility for any part of payment for repairs.
