VICE REGAL (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. March 7. This morning the Governor-General (Sir Willoughby Norrie) presided at a meeting of the Executive Council. At Government House, his Excellency received Mr S. Shima, Charge d’Affairs for Japan, who is soon to leave New Zealand, and Mr Y. Takeno, Charge d'Affairs-dcsignate for Japan. In the afternoon, the GovernorGeneral received the Prime Minister 'Mr Holland). Later their . Excellencies received General W. H. Kitching (international leader of the Salvation Army) and Mrs Kitching, and Commissioner and Mrs R. A. Hoggard. The Governor-General and Lady Norrie will leave Wellington by air tomorrow morning for Invercargill to fulfil engagements connected with the Southland centennial. Their Excellencies will return to Wellington on the evening of March 17.
The Rev. F. Vivian Fisher has been appointed an honorary canon of Christchurch Cathedral by the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren). Canon Fisher was formerly vicar of Addington, and recently has been priest in charge of the parish of Sydenham. At present he is assistant priest in the parish of Opawa-St Martins. Mr K. W. Free has passed with distinction in the examinations for the degree of master of engineering (chemical), according to advice from Canterbury University College.
