77-Year-Old Briton Cannot Sleep
NO REMEDIES EFFECTIVE

Eustace Burnett, aged •!, who lives in the little village of Hose in Leicestershire, has not slept at all l ast 46 years, says the Daily Mirror.” Every night of his life he hopefully puts on pyjamas, gets into bed and closes his eyes—and just stays awake. He began to sleep badly when he was 30. Soon he could not sleep at all. He tried heavy manual work, energetic tennis, bedtime drinks—even ?eft«Jk ng sheep. “When I reached 150.000 and I was stil awake I decided to see a doctor.” said Mr Burnett. But the doctor could do nothing He said Mr Burnett was completely normal. Even now, the doctor admits Mr Burnett is as healthy as a man of 26. All sorts of advice have been given him An American theosophist suggested that he tried meditating in a vertical position. An Indian recommended buffalo milk at bedtime. Nothing has been effective. “The only thing to do is to look on the bright side.” said Mr Burnett. “Since most people spend one third of their lives asleep. I claim to have lived 15 years longer than anyone else of my age.”
