CATTLE CREEK FARM SETTLEMENT

BALLOT HELD FOR TWO SECTIONS Thirteen former servicemen of World War II applied to the South Canterbury Land Settlement Committee for selection to participate in the ballot held at Timaru today for two sections of the Cattle Creek farm settlement. Mr T. W. Preston, Commissioner of Crown Lands, presided. The settlement, situated on tht Hakataramea valley road about 2: miles from Kurow, on the north-east corner of the Hakataramea station, was purchased from the New Zealand and Australian Land Company, and is divided into two sections. One section has an area of 1357 acres with a five-roomed dwelling, and the estimated carrying capacity is about 800 ewes and replacements. It has a potential of 1200 ewes and replacements. The other section of 1031 acres has no buildings, but two huts are being shifted on to the property to provide accommodation pending the erection of a new dwelling. The estimated carrying capacity at date of possession is about 900 ewes and replacements. with a potential of 1100 ewes and replacements. The ballot for the first section was gained by A. C. Taylor, of Kurow, and the second section by W. H. Murcott, of Hampden. If these two do not want to take up the land, Messrs E. A. Forbes, Oamaru, and T. E. Neave. Kurow, have first right of refusal on the first and second sections respectively.
