SIRE OF WINNERS OF £60,000 IN N.Z. “The Press’ Special Service INVERCARGILL. February 17. The imported Foxlaw stallion. ColumciHe. died recently at Chelandry Stud. He formerly stood at the Trelawney Stud. He was bought by the Che an dry studmaster. Mr W. E. Hazlett, about four years ago, and his oldest Southland ciop are three-year-olds. In fewer than seven seasons Columcille sired winners of more than £60,000 m the Dominion. . «=•>=•> Winner of eight races and £5353 in England, he sired winners of more than £30.000 before coming to the Dominion Most of Columcille s stock need age before showing their best form, and show marked jumping ability. Columcilles two best winners. Poetical and Coppice, were full brothers. Both were out of the Foxbridpe mare Foxwooo. Poetical, a winner at Rotorua last Saturday, won the New Zealand Cup at Riccarton last November. He has won nine races and £11.855. His other successes include the Wanganui Guineas. W. K. c. Watkins Handicap, and C.J.C. Fehdalton Handicap. r 4l _ The ill-fated Coppice was one of the best hurdlers raced in the Dominion in recent years He won the difficult Great Northern Hurdles-Grand National Hurdles double in 1953. Altogether he won nine races and £7230. Royalcille, another of Columcille s progenv. won the 1952 Great Northern Hurdles. Among his other winners were Longford, High Stakes. Whittaker. Muscille. Best Man. Brown Baron, Irish Saint, Harleston, and Pantata.
