SEATO DEFENCE EXERCISE
FINAL PREPARATIONS IN BANGKOK (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) BANGKOK, February 14. Sea. land and air forces of five nations are converging on Bangkok as final preparations are completed for the first demonstration of the strength of the South-East Asia Treaty Organisation. American aeroplanes, ships, marines and paratroopers, British, Australian and New Zealand ships and men and a combat-ready battalion of Philippines infantry will arrive in Bangkok and Donmuang airport. British jet fighters and bomtfers will fly into the airport later in the day. The Chief Information Officer of Siam (General Khrab Kunjara) today described the exercises as a demonstration of SEATO power. Although General Kunjara denied that Siam wanted a SEATO exhibition for political reasons, observers in Bangkok predicted that they would greatly boost Siam’s morale. They said the country feels it is one of the most vulnerable in the event of Chinese aggression.
