Thermometers Broken in Gardens. —Two grass thermometers, valued at about £6, were damaged at the Magnetic Survey in the Botanic Gardens during the week-end. The thermometers, which are fixed an inch above the ground and record the temperature on the grass, are believed to have been broken by children. They were enclosed in a glass envelope, and although one was completely destroyed, the other was damaged on the outer envelope only. The partly damaged thermometer is being used to record minimum grass readings until both are replaced from W ellington later thi s week.
