COLD WAR IN THE ANTARCTIC
Sir, —It is regrettable that United States official sources should be the first to talk of a cold war in the Antarctic. When world scientists get together to collaborate in the name of science, the word war should not be mentioned. It has been noticeable throughout the post-war years that negative and war talks have always come first from the United States. If Britain can bury the hatchet after Argentina and Chile tried to annex British Antarctic land, then so should the United States keep quiet about a cold war with Russian scientists in the Antarctic. —Yours, etc., SCIENCE FOR PEACE. January 23, 1956.
