WOOL VALUES IN AUSTRALIA
(Rec. 11 p.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 23. At the Sydney wool sales today the market ruled firm at Newcastle closing rates for Merino, comeback and crossbred wools. Average. Merino and crossbred wools continued to meet keen inquiry. Of the 15,519 bales offered 15,347 were sold. There was widespread competition from Britain, the Continent and Japan, with limited support from the United States and local mills.
Crossbred prices included: good to super crossbred combing fleece, 60/ 64’s, 791 d: 56/50*5. 71Jd; super crossbred combing fleece. 60/58’s. 792 d; good 46/50’s. 63d; 60/64’s, light burr. 72jd.
