Group Captain S. W. R. Hughes. R.A.F., formerly of Auckland, has been appointed to command the fighter station at Jever. North Germany, in the Second Tactical Air Force of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. Group Captain Hughes, who was a journalist before he entered the R.A.F. before the Second World War, recently completed a course at the Imperial Defence College. London, after an appointment as officer commanding the Royal Air Force Establishment. Farnborough. Mr F. Barron, secretary of the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association. has been appointed the association’s representative on the Canterbury District Patriotic Welfare Corrmittee. His nomination was confirmed at a meeting of the executive last evening. Mr W. C. Prosser, who has been secretary of the Northern Agriculture and Pastoral Association, Rangiora. for the last 30 years, will retire on January 31. He will be succeeded l ' Mr G. F. Shepoard.
