HEAT IN HAWARDEN

Sir, —While such towns as Waimate and Ashburton have had great publicity because of their record temperatures over the last few days, the residents of Hawarden and surrounding districts have been suffering temperatures of up to 95 degrees. At 10 o’clock this morning the temperature had reached 89 degrees, while a thermometer placed in / the sun registered over 120 degrees. By noon, the peak temperature of 95 degrees was reached. Surely this, too, was a record? —Yours, etc., WILTED. Hawarden, January 20, 1956.
