PIG BLADDER SUPPLY NEEDED FOR ACT An American comedian, Dewey (“Pigmeat”) Markham, said on his arrival in Christchurch by air: “I an. going to bust 25 pig bladders on a lawyer’s head before I leave , this town.’’ He is the negro comedian star of the Harlem Blackbirds, the coloured musical revue which opened in Christchurch on Saturday. Markham has already broken nine dozen inflated pig bladders in New Zealand on the head of Larry Steele, an American lawyer who is producer of the show. He used the bladders as a gavel in the comedy act. “Judge Pigmeat's Courtroom.” Markham had dif cultv in getting pigs’ bladders in Australia. The Customs confiscated consignments he tried to import from America on the ground that they might harbour animal diseases. He had to keep on patching his old ones. “They could not find me any in the Christchurch butchers’ shops.” he said, “but they have bought me three dozen from Belfast already. I am going to have a ‘whale of a time’ on Larry Steele’s head here.”
