Gasworks Explosion In Felixstowe
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, January 6.
Two men died and'six were injured, four seriously, in a gas explosion at the east coast town of Felixstowe today.
A spokesman for the district gas board said: “There was an explosion in the governor house at the works: it was followed by intense fire. Clearly it was a leak of gas somewhere which became ignited.” The governor housecontrols pressure for the area. Gas is not made at Felixstowe, but is supplied from nearly Ipswich and fed out locally. A pit had to be flooded and a gas main blocked to put out the fire, but the leak remained. The area was cordoned off for fear of a second explosion. Three adjacent buildings were damaged and the roof blown off a bungalow.
