Sheep Stealing In Britain

Modern rustlers with cars and lorries are making serious raids on flocks of ewes and lambs in Britain, according to the “Daily Express.” They haul the sheep aboard at night, workin p l?y the glare of headlamps. Nearly 600 have been rustled from farms in Cumberland, Westmorland, and Durham. One farmer has lost 300 in two years. t The scale of the raids has been stepped up in the last 10 months. The National Farmers’ Uni'on is asking its members to patrol lonely pasture lands and report any losses to headquarters. Sheep stealing carries a maximum penalty of 14 years in gaol. It was punishable by death up to 1826.
