DUTY ON AERO CLUB PLANES
REMISSION OF DUTY ANNOUNCED SUITABLE BRITISH TYPES NOT AVAILABLE (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. January 6. The Government has decided to assist* aero clubs through the remission of duty on imports of light aircraft specially suited to training purposes. Announcing this decision, the Minister of Customs (Mr D. J. Eyre) said that, temporarily, light aircraft of the type required by aero clubs were not available from Britain or other British sources, and it had been necessary to import aircraft of foreign origin. The normal duty on foreign aircraft was 10 per cent., plus a surtax of nine-fortieths of the duty. British aircraft, if available, would be subject to a duty of 3 per cent, only. The Minister said the Government recognised the importance of the work carried out by aero clubs in providing facilities for training pilots, and had given substantial assistance to clubs through subsidies. He had no doubt that the additional assistance now being granted through the remission of the duty would also prove helpful. /
