Seven Canterbury fours and one from the West Coast have qualified for post-section play at the national bowling championships. Each has had six wins. • Two more games will be played tomorrow. and other Canterbury -players still have a chance to qualify. The Canterbury club, which has more than 30 players at the tournament. has J. B. Rennie’s four in the list of qualifiers. In a weak section, the four, which includes A. Rennie, the skip's father, had convincing wins in all its matches, and it should win two more games tomorrow. In beating the Takaka rink skipped by J. A. Hoare, Rennie started off today in grand style with an 8 from drawn shots on the first head, and won, 40-44. The Papanui four skipped by C. H. Manning struggled through for a 23-22 win in the morning, and in the afternoon’ beat W. N. Mitchell (Karitane), 32-16. Manning thus qualified for postsection play, after winning all his six games. Mitchell, who has won against T. T. Skoglund (Carlton), was unbeaten until he met Manning. At the eleventh end, when the tea adjournment was taken, the score in this match was 11all. Later Manning scored 4, 3. and 4, and led 27-14 at the eighteenth. Sydenham fours skipped by F. B. Hickman and A. D. Smith each gained, six successive wins by good margins. After a win over R. Longstaff (Blaketown), J. E. Latimer (Kai Toa, Timaru) beat W. C. F. Edgar (Tainui). 34-16. N. T. Prisk Unbeaten N. T. Prisk (St. Martins) had little difficulty in winning his matfhes. and is unbeaten. One of his opponents tomorrow, C. S. Hellyer (Caedonian. Dunedin), scored a surprise win against R. E. Pilkington (jalmoral) on the second day. T. H. P. Rennie (Fendalttn) today won two more games, 24-14 and 24-11, to qualify. The West Coast qualifier. H. White (Runanga). gained a surprie vtan. 2712 over J. Pirret (Tuakau). Pirret had been unbeaten. The Westport R.S.A. foilr Jed by C. S. Spearman has yet to qualify for post-section play. After a comfortable win against C. McKenzie (Opawa) this morning. was beaten, 31-12. by R. Ritchie tEllerslie) ? he a Jternoon. Ritchie gained a 12-0 lead at the sixth eni, and at the eleventh led, 19-3. Spearman will have to win both games tomorrow to qualify, as it is unlikely that he will be* a section winner. / H. H. Hey (Opawa) wij have to win one game tomorrow to qualify. He started with an unbeaten record today, but after a 26-17 win against J Rogers (Westport R.S.A.). he lost, Warren (Logan Park). . F. B. Sheard (Woolston) was beaten in his sixth game with W. Kelman ‘Southland), who gained only his second win. Sheard lost. 25-22 but he has had five wins, and is likely to qualify tomorrow.
