Tlie Australian cricket selectors have chosen a mixture of well-seasoned and young players to compete in a testimonial match for the Yormer international players, Arthur Mailey and Johnny Taylor, to be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 13 to January 17. The match precedes the selectfon on February 8 of 17 players to tour England and is regarded as a trial for the selection of the tourists. The teams will be under the experienced leadership of lan Johnson and Keith Miller. New South Wales supplies eight of the 22 players, Victoria five, Queensland four. SHIELD GAME WITH WELLINGTON

CANTERBURY AHEAD ON POINTS

Much interest will centre on the Plunket Shield game between Canterbury and Wellington, which will begin .on Lancaster Park Oval today.

With outright wins against Otago and Auckland. Canterbury now has 16 points towards the trophy, which has not been held by Canterbury since the 1951-52 season. Wellington has played only one game, and that was lost to Central Districts, one of Canterbury’s closest rivals at this stage. Equal with Auckland, Central Districts has eight points.

RIVERINA AND NORTH OTAGO DRAW

(New Zealand Press Association) OAMARU, January 5. The two-day cricket match between North Otago and the visiting Riverina (New South Wales) touring eleven, concluded in Oamaru today, resulted in a draw.

North Otago made 251 runs in the first innings, to which Riverina replied with 329 and at stumps in its second strike North Otago had lost seven for 122.
