equipment for ANTARCTIC
measures against FIRE HAZARD
(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, October 26. Because of the lack of water, fire is one of the great hazards in the Antarctic and a self-sufficient reserve stock of medical supplies for the British party has been prepared for storage away from the main camp. In packing the eqipment, care has been taken to guard against condensation and dampness and plastic film and other waterproof barriers have been . extensively used to give the utmost protection.
Breakable articles have been packed to withstand rough treatment. \ Glass bottles are in sperate lined metal containers, and clinical thermometers are in aluminium cylinders. To keep down weight, glass containers have been avoided as far as possible in favour of plastic or metal containers. The packing cases are of plywood instead of the heavier timber.
