.Soangetaha paced his mile and a half in 3min 16 l-ssec, the last halfmile m Imm 1 l-ssec. Thelma Globe's Effort None of the four starters in the second heat began smoothly, and at tne end of a furlong, Thelma Globe was leading from Aladdin, Black Douglas, and Excelsa. The last-named moved up to join the pacemaker ra cing to the straight, where the other pair were just behind them. 1 nelma Globe ran on strongly, and had half a length to spare over Excelsa, with .a similar distance to Black Douglas, and a length and a half to Aladdin. Thelma Globe paced her mile, and a half in 3min 21sec, her last half-mile in Imin, and her final quarter m 29 l-ssec. Thelma Globe has trained on well since her two wins in sprint company at Forbury Park, and she finished solidly after being seen in her unusual role of pacemaker. Excelsa will be a formidable cup candidate. She looks a picture, and she has come through her searching preparation excellently. Black Douglas should winxme of the minor races at the cup meeting. He, too, looks in great order.

Aladdin was rather disappointing, and he will have to show improvement to have much chance in' the cup. Slipstream and Vodka were outstanding among the trotters in the 3min 27sec class trot. Circlette was the leader for five furlongs, till Battle Cry was sent to the front. He appeared to be trotting well until he broke with two furlongs to run—a stage at which he has broken in several of his races at Addington in the last 18 months. Slipstream was then left clear, and he finished on to win comfortably by three lengths after trotting the mile and a half in the very good time of 3min 17sec., his last half-mile in Imin 2 3-ssec. Slipstream is one of the most consistent trotters m commission, and he should have a most profitable meeting at Addington.

Vodka Shows Speed Vodka finished boldly for second after trotting his mile and a half from post to post in 3min 14 3-ssec—-a smart effort under the conditions. A pleasing feature of his run was the smooth manner in which he began. Barravey, a candidate for the minor events for trotters at Addington, was a length and a half back, third. He broke twice in the early stages of the race, and showed tremendous speed to finish so close up. He was carrying plenty of surplus condition. Fourth, a head from Barravey, was Precaution, which also looks well. Superfortress made up ground for fifth, ahead of Deportment, Battle Cry, and Circlette. Recruit finished well back after breaking badly at the end of a furlong. Brave Company, which is now being trained by J. B. Pringle, won the 3min 23sec class pace after taking 3min 18 l-ssec for his mile and a half, his last half-mile in Imin 6 l-ssec. and his final quarter in 31 l-ssec. Brave Company was soon in a handy position, and he finished strongly to beat Count Grattan by a head. The Light Brigade gelding may soon show useful form. Count Grattan broke with half a mile to run, and he showed plenty of speed to finish so close up. A winner at Forbury Park earlier in the month, he should show to advantage in his races at Addington. He was a length in front of Royal Minstrel, which was running on strongly. He looks very well, and should be prominent at Addington. Flywheel, which had forced most of the pace, was a head back, fourth, ahead of Coincident. Prince Charming, Double Talk and IJillbn d’Oro. Lady Wexford’s Trial

Lady Wexford recorded a good trial 1 for important classic events in the next few weeks, in' winning the 3m in 29sec i class pace. She broke at the start, but at the end of six furlongs, she was l one out, just behind the pacemaker, Gold Light. Into the straight they J were closely attended by Banbury, J Icicle Lad, and Highland Air, with Ponty, Dryden Lad and Reveille handi- i est of the others. Lady Wexford ran on excellently, and won convincingly by one length after pacing her milei, and a half in 3min 24 l-ssec, and her , last half-mile in Imin 7 3-ssec. i Lady Wexford won the New Zea- < land Sapling Stakes and two .races in ‘ Sydney last season. She had her first j start for the current season at Oamaru ( last Saturday, and she will be a fit ( horse for her engagements at AddingtOGold Light showed speed to lead 1 until just short of the post, and he may ] soon win. He was a length in front of Highland Air, a favoured candidate for Hutt Park tomorrow. Highland Air did not get a run in the straight, and was a head* in front of Banbury, a candidate for the Kaikoura Cup. Icicle Lad was right up next, clear of Ponty, which should race well Kaikoura, Dryden Lad. Reveille, Ayrland’s Pride, and the back-marker, La Mignon, which had been at the rear of the field to the straight. Qualified Maidens Dalene, Bracken Brae, Sierra Madre, and Reason Why were the most impressive performers in three heats for qualified maiden pacers. Grandee, which lost ground early, showed speed after being forced over extra ground to win the first heat after pacing the mile and a half in 3min 25 4-ssec the last half-mile in Imm 9 l-ssec’ Gandree had a neck to space over Premium, with Stylish Linda finishing on, a length back, for third, clear of Clue, with Tourie. Dan Derby, and Wainoni Loyal next. Dan Derby broke a hopple with half a furlong to run, and interfered with Wainoni Loyal. Dalene, a candidate for three-year-old events at Addington, set a leisurely pace throughout the second heat, taking 3min 31sec for the mile and a half, the last half-mile in Imin ssec. The Light Brigade filly seems to have made ramd improvement in recent weeks. She was a length and a half in front of Bracken Brae, a prospect at Xaikoura on Tuesday. Buren finished on for third, a neck back, a similar distance in front of California, with Elsinore next, clear of Mar joy and Compo Jack. Sierra Madre recorded a sound trial for her engagement in the Duvauchelle Handicap at Motukarara tomorrow, when she finished on too solidly for Reason Why and Starwise, a candidate for the same race, in the third heat. She took 3min 26sec for her mile and a half, the last half-mile in Imin 6 2-ssec. Sierra Madre had two lengths’ to spare over Reason Why, a candidate for the New Zealand Derby Stakes, and other races at Addington, with a length to I Starwise, the pacemaker, and three

lengths to Kyle Nurse, which was followed by Lord Argyle, Greenstone, and Cartoni.

Slow-class Trotters Random’s Pride and Kauru Boy, candidates for trotting events at Kaikoura on Tuesday, won their respective heats of the 3min 41sec class trot. Both should show to advantage in their races on Tuesday. Random’s Pride was always handily placed in the first heat, and he led Dan’s Choice and Lady Baffelan into the straight. He finished, on solidly to win by a head after trotting his mile and a half in 3min 32 2-ssec, the last half-mile in Imin 7 2-ssec. Dan’s Choice is also a candidate for Kaikoura.

Lady Baffelan was under a hold all the way after starting from 108 yards, and she ws eight lengths back, third, a length in front of Care, with Donna Lyall fifth. Lady Baffelan, a candidate for the New Zealand Cup meeting on Tuesday week, looks in great heart, anfl she should have a profitable meeting. In the second heat, Kauru Boy waited on Red Jenny and Perekop until the final furlong, and he finished on to win comfortably by a length and a half after trotting his mile and a half in 3min 35sec, the last half-mile in Imin 8 4-ssec.

Perekop, which should soon win a race, held on for second, a head in front of Red Jenny, which showed considerable promise. Willowdale, a member of A. M. Purdon’s team, broke in the running, and was six lengths back, fourth, clear of Gay Tune.
