NEW SETTLERS FOR SOUTH ISLAND
FIVE SHIPS BRINGING DRAFTS TO N.Z.
Five overseas ships will bring drafts of new settlers to the Dominion between October 24 and November 30. With the exception of a draft coming from Holland by the Waterman, all the Immigrants will be from Britain. On Monday the Mataroa will berth at Auckland, bringing a party that will include 16 new settlers for the South Island. Of this number, five—two families—will remain in Christchurch and the rest will go to Dunedin. They will arrive at Lyttelton.on Wednesday. A draft of 42 immigrants for the South Island will disembark from the Southern Cross at Wellington on October 26, and will arrive at Lyttelton on October 27. Most of the group of 19 who will remain in Christchurch from the draft are building tradesmen. From this party, 23 will go to districts further south and eight will go to Westport. The Captain Cook will arrive in New Zealand on November 22. the Waterman on November 26, and the Captain Hobson on November 30, with further drafts.
