PROFESSIONAL’S VISIT
AUSTRALIANS ADVISE OF POSTPONEMENT
The four Australian professional tennis players who were to tour- the North Inland soon have cabled advice to the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association that the tour will have to be postponed. The players are F. Sedgman, K. McGregor, D. Pails, and I. Ayre. The Canterbury and Wellington associations have cabled back to Sedgman asking him to let them know the amended date of his coming to New Zealand. "At the present, we don't know, just when they are coming,” said the president of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association (Mr R. N. C. Hill). “We will have to wait for the reply, and then rearrange the dates of the matches accordingly.” On Monday evening the management committee of the Canterbury association decided to ask the Australians to give exhibition matches at Wilding Park on November 7. Alternative dates were suggested as November 8 and 9. The association has now suggested November 26 as the date for matches.
DORIS HART TO TURN PROFESSIONAL
MIAMI, October 19. Doris Hart, the United States national women's tennis champion, said today that she would turn professional and become an instructor at the Flamingo Hotel in Miami Beach. Miss Hart won the Wimbledon title in 1951, but the United States title eluded her until 1954. She went to the finals several times at Forest Hills, and finally, last year, she broke through, defeating Louise Brough for the championship. She successfully defended the title this year. _____________
